Our House Children, Ziggy & Flower: A Short Bio
Ziggy and Flower were adopted in June 1992 after the loss of our first baby, Stinky. We planned on adopting just one, a cute little female named Flower.
Jaki Beshur, the breeder, recently had an eight month old male pig returned to her and thought we might be interested in him. He just didn’t fit in, in his home of two kids and one dog. There was no outdoor area and Ziggy was indoors basically 24 hours a day, and left alone with the dog most of the time. Big mistake!
Ziggy and the dog had gone at it more than once over food. Ziggy still has a scar down his nose from this. He was also mis-treated by the owners who evidently took a broom to him on many occasions, mainly because Ziggy, as a typical pot belly, was inquisitive, and constantly got into things because he was bored.
Since Flower seemed to 'adopt' Ziggy as her big brother, and since Ziggy had characteristics very similar to our first baby, we decided to adopt both!! Jaki did the socializing of them for us and a week later we picked them up and brought them home.
Ziggy and Flower have now been with us for 13+ wonderful years. Over time they have grown, their bed has grown, and so did the size of their yard. But most importantly, they have grown in our hearts.
